The Backlink Advisor

Most backlink advice is either too broad, too obvious, or clearly written by someone who’s never tried to land a link in their life. You get the usual suspects—“write great content,” “do outreach,” “get listed on directories.”

Cheers.

So I built something better: a GPT that actually understands link-building strategy. It reads your page, looks at what it's competing with, and suggests link types that make sense for your specific goals.

Not generic advice. Not recycled templates. Just strategic input based on how backlinks really work.

Want to try it out? Here's the link. But if you're curious how (and why) I made it, keep reading.

What is The Backlink Advisor?

It’s a GPT I custom-built to deliver a real backlink strategy. When you give it your brand name (and optionally your domain or competitors), it builds a tailored plan based on a custom framework I designed.

Here’s what makes it different:

  • No APIs. No scraping. No made-up metrics. It uses heuristics, competitor logic, and structured assumptions to guide the strategy—perfect for safe, non-spammy link building.

  • RSI scoring system. Each backlink idea is scored by Relevance, Safety, and Impact—so you can prioritise smarter.

  • Custom outreach playbooks. It suggests angles, site types, message templates, and even provides a 90-day roadmap.

  • Heuristic URL list. It’ll suggest real-world sites to approach—but always labels them as “verify before outreach” to stay safe and realistic.

In other words, it thinks like a human strategist (minus the coffee dependency).

Who is this for?

Just to be clear, this GPT isn’t trying to replace Ahrefs or do your entire link-building campaign for you. It’s for the people who don’t have a dedicated SEO team, or maybe don’t want one.

If that’s you, here’s who it’s built for:

  • Small teams that need to kick off backlink efforts but aren’t sure where to start.

  • Content folks and marketers wearing multiple hats who want guidance without going down a technical rabbit hole.

  • Founders and consultants who are trying to boost visibility for a new site, product, or campaign.

  • People who hate spammy outreach and want backlink ideas that feel legit, relevant, and doable.

  • Anyone not deep in SEO but smart enough to know backlinks still matter.

It’s a strategy helper, not a silver bullet. You’ll still need to do the outreach. But this will get you pointed in the right direction, quickly, safely, and with more clarity than 95% of the SEO content out there.

Why did I make The Backlink Advisor?

Honestly? Because I was tired of the same advice showing up in every “how to build backlinks” article. You know the ones: “write great content,” “guest post,” “reach out to influencers.”

Sure. Thanks. Very helpful.

The reality is, most people don’t need more generic tactics. They need a tailored strategy. They need to know:

  • Which types of backlinks will move the needle for this page.

  • Where they might actually get featured, based on what they do.

  • How to pitch it without sounding like a template robot.

I built The Backlink Advisor because I’ve worked with brands who need link-building help, but aren’t at the stage to hire an SEO agency or build an in-house team. They need structure, not spam.

This GPT is the framework I’ve used (and refined) in real client projects, now packaged into something anyone can access, for free, in under a minute.

How it works

This is the best bit - all you need to do is add your brand name.

From there, The Backlink Advisor builds a tailored backlink strategy using a fully custom prompt system I designed for this exact use case.

Here’s what it gives you:

  • Snapshot summary of your brand and assumptions made (if any)

  • Prioritised backlink opportunities, scored with my RSI system (Relevance, Safety, Impact)

  • Outreach playbooks by site type—complete with angles, qualifying checklists, and email templates

  • Heuristic URL list of suggested targets, clearly marked “verify before outreach”

  • 90-day roadmap to guide setup, outreach, follow-up, and reporting

  • Risks and mitigations so you can avoid the usual link-building pitfalls

No browsing. No made-up contact info. No inflated promises. Just a structured, realistic strategy that adapts to your inputs.

Its limitations

As useful as this GPT is, it's not magic, and it’s definitely not a replacement for hands-on SEO expertise. A few things it won’t do:

  • It doesn’t browse the web. So it can’t pull live authority metrics, check for broken links, or spy on your competitors’ backlink profiles in real time.

  • It doesn’t give guaranteed contact info. Suggested URLs are based on logical patterns and safe archetypes, but they still need manual verification.

  • It can’t send outreach for you. You’ll still need to personalise the templates, hit send, and build the relationships.

  • It assumes good intentions. If your brand is in a grey area (crypto, gambling, aggressive affiliates), it’s going to struggle because it was built to avoid shady link-building tactics.

And perhaps most importantly: it works best when you give it thoughtful answers. The more context you feed it, the more strategic the output.

Final Thoughts (and That Link Again)

Backlink strategy shouldn’t feel like black magic or busywork. But most of the tools out there either overwhelm you with data or underwhelm you with advice.

The Backlink Advisor is designed to sit in the middle. It’s strategic, simple, and built for people who just want to get moving, without hiring an SEO agency or trawling forums for scraps.

If you’ve ever looked at a blank outreach doc and thought, “Where do I even start?”—this GPT is your starting point.
