How I Helped One Client Gain a Ton of Deep Research Links From ChatGPT

Short on time? Steve Toth of SEONotebook did a great deep dive on the work that Connecteam and I have done (without actually knowing who was behind it!)

It should come as no surprise that one of the biggest questions I get from clients at the moment is, ‘How do I get my content to appear in ChatGPT results?’

After all, AI is the talk of the digital town, and as AI Overviews continue to eat into organic traffic graphs, many clients want to shore up their content marketing efforts.

Despite a lot of the inner workings of generative AI still being hidden in secrecy, I was able to use my expertise and guidance to help one client achieve incredible results, both on Google and in LLMs.

Also, a big shoutout to the client Connecteam, who were not only incredibly receptive to the ideas and suggestions proposed but also came at the topic with their own thoughts and insights, which proved invaluable.

So, how exactly did we manage to get heavily featured in ChatGPT as a source for one of their main keyword phrases ‘best project management software’?

I’ll tell you!

First Off, Why Did We Take On This Topic?

Before we jump in, you’re probably wondering why we chose that particular keyword term.

Why would an employee app SaaS go all-in on writing reviews of tools like ClickUp, Asana, and Wrike?

Well, in simple terms, their product (Connecteam) is built specifically for managing deskless teams.

We’re talking about construction crews, hospitality staff, transportation workers—people who don’t sit behind a desk all day.

These industries face unique challenges that typical project management tools don’t solve well. The usual suspects in the software world often fall short.

Before these reviews, a large portion of the market was unaware that Connecteam even existed.

But our brand awareness strategy?

It crushed.

And continues to keep crushing!

It gained us visibility with the right audience while boosting branded search volume.

In every review, we successfully position Connecteam as the better option for deskless teams.

From my SEO audit, I identified that many of Connecteam’s potential customers are searching for tools like ClickUp, Asana, or Wrike, which are tools that only partially meet their needs.

Now, Connecteam shows up right there, offering a purpose-built alternative that actually fits the way these teams work.

Reviews Are About Honesty, Not Gloating

How often do you find yourself reading a review, quickly feeling confused at why it is so heavily weighted in favour of specific brands?

Then, you notice that the product or service in question is either owned by the website you’re on or a close affiliate.

Suddenly, all of the authenticity, trust, and faith in what you are reading go out the window as you realise you’re reading a promotional article and not a genuine review.

In an era of constant promotion, digital trickery, and generic AI-generated articles, we decided to flip the script and create a dynamic, authentic, and high-quality content strategy.

Now more than ever, trust and authenticity are difficult to attain and all too easy to lose.

So, we set about creating a vast bank of reviews of competitor project management software, but with a twist.

The articles were legitimate, honest, and entirely impartial.

That’s right, no ‘here’s why Connecteam is sooooo much better', download it now!’

No ‘Connecteam, on the other hand, has all those things and so much more!’

Instead, we focused on providing users with genuine and insightful reviews, as we were confident that:

  • Our product is the best anyway.

  • Readers would appreciate the impartiality, making us a more attractive and trustworthy proposition.

With that, we set about producing a template system that writers could follow that ensured we stuck to these objectives at all costs, and showed Google, AI, and readers that this content was highly trustworthy.

To do this, we utilized a range of tactics, including but not limited to:

  1. Write out a clear and precise review methodology and post it on the website as a clear signal of our intent to match E-E-A-T.

  2. Mapped out a content plan to write more than 2,000 reviews.

  3. Hired freelance writers who had specific expertise in SaaS and tech and linked articles to their Author Bio pages for full transparency over the source of the content.

  4. Used clear and concise titles in a templated and structured format (Honest [insert brand name here] Review [year]: Pros, Cons, Features & Pricing.

The Results

On Google

Let’s start with the ‘traditional’ results.

As you can see from the screenshot above, the results in Google are fantastic, with almost every single review ranking in the top 10 for ‘[brand name] review’.

When you consider those results across thousands of reviews, you start to see why Connecteam is experiencing such brilliant results!

In ChatGPT

But it’s within LLMs where the results really get interesting. After all, it’s not too hard to get some articles to rank well on Google when your Domain Rating is 75 (it’s not easy, but it’s not THAT hard).

But the results within ChatGPT Deep Research are where the results kick it up a notch.

Just look at the results that appear when you search “best project management software” in ChatGPT Deep Research.

Key Learnings

That’s a lot of data to take in, but it doesn’t quite answer my initial question.

‘How do I get my content to appear in ChatGPT results?’

The answer? Focus on authenticity and offering genuine quality.

There’s a clear trend within AI results toward content that focuses on quality over old-school SEO-packed content.

Remember, user-first, not search-first content, always wins.

With so much data and analytics to sift through, it’s easy for content marketing consultants like myself to get lost in the numbers and forget that it is real people who are reading the content we are producing.

Organic traffic comes in all shapes and sizes now, and the role that AI plays in that only continues to grow.
